The Winery:
The winery sits at the southern end of the Sonoma side of the AVA, on top of a small hill with breathtaking views in every direction. This is truly a wine estate done in a massive Italian villa style, with wine caves, expansive patios, and formal gardens. The tasting room has a full Italian market with tasting bars at either end of the massive room. The winery has been environmentally active in the region, being responsible for the restoration and preservation of the 90 acres of accompanying wetlands.
|
The Vineyards:
The hilltop villa is surrounded by vineyards specializing in Italian and California varietals. Additional grapes are purchased from throughout Carneros, Sonoma Valley as well as other regions. The winery specializes in the Italian varietals, not-so-common in California, such as Dolcetto, Aleatico, Freisa, Arneis and Tocai Friulano, as well as the more common Barbera, Sangiovese and Pinot Grigio.
|
The Wines: Viansa has made a reputation for their unique Italian varietals and blended wines that complement the region and facility so well. But the winery has also experienced great success at commercial tasting competitions for their Bordeaux and Rhone varietals, creating a beautifully rounded wine portfolio. |
The Winemaker:
The winemaker at Viansa is Ron Goss, a Univeristy of California, Davis, graduate. He worked at Foster’s wine estate and Beringers prior to coming to the estate.
