The Winery:
Ty Caton Vineyards is actually located in the foothills of the Sonoma Valley. Tasting at Ty Caton is by appointment at the winery facility. The winery recently opened a new tasting room in the city of Kenwood, roughly 30 miles north of Sonoma on Highway 12. The Kenwood tasting room is open daily.

The Vineyards:
The foothill vineyards are planted on the slopes of hillsides with 300 feet of elevation change, which creates multiple microclimates. This allows a surprisingly wide range of grape varieties to be grown. The estate is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Malbec, all sustainably farmed.

The Wines:
The winery has produced several excellent Cabernet Sauvignons, particularly one created from their Sonoma vineyards. It is beautifully full on the palate, with great black fruit and a very long finish. Another wine that is a must try is their Petite Sirah with its big black fruit, baking spice and smoke on the palate with a wonderful structure of acid and tannin.

The Winemaker:
Ty Caton, a Sonoma native, is the winemaker at the estate. He attended the California State University, Sacramento prior to becoming involved in the wine industry.
