The Winery:
The winery was founded in 1981 by college friends David Graves and Dick Ward. Located on the Napa side of the Los Carneros AVA, the winery uses solar and environmentally friendly farming practices to have as little impact to the local environment as is possible. The winery offers tastings by appointment only, and can be hard to find, so always call first.

The Vineyards:
There was a great deal of clonal experimentation done before the founders felt they had the right varietal and clone married to the right piece of land. As well as producing estate grapes Saintsbury purchase grapes from throughout the Carneros region to find Pinots capable of single vineyard designation or for use in a vineyard blend.

The Wines:
Saintsbury has built a reputation for correctly matching the right Pinot Noir clone to the best vineyards. Between doing clonal experimentation in their own vineyards, and buying grapes from a few very select Carneros vineyards, they pride themselves on bringing out the true taste that represents the many terroirs found in the region. They are known to make wines of elegance and balance, with long, layered finishes.

The Winemaker:
David Graves has a degree in biology, and Dick Ward has a degree in structural engineering. They met while taking classes at the University of California at Davis in Enology.
