The Winery:     The 55 acre estate was founded by Bob Mueller and Karen McKenzie in 1989, with the first wines produced in 1990. This is a small, boutique winery with tasting done in the cellar room situated in as an Americana a scene as one can imagine. In fall, the views across the gold and red vineyards is absolutely entrancing. The walls of the tasting area are covered with the work of local artists, including family members.
The Vineyards:    The estate owns two vineyards, the first is the Big Ranch Road Vineyard in Oak Knoll, where the family has grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc since 1979. This is an area of rich deep loamy soils and warm temperatures. The second vineyard is at the winery site in the rolling hills of the Los Carneros region. This is a cooler region of heavy, shallow clays that are more suited to Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Malbec and even a little Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Wines:    All wines are estate grown and bottled with little intervention, and are all unfiltered. The Cabernet Sauvignon is deeply flavored with soft, dusty tannins and incredible length. The Pinot has an equal depth of flavor, but with beautiful red fruit and a lingering finish.
The Winemaker:     The founder of McKenzie-Mueller, Bob Mueller, is a University of California, Davis, graduate and is the winemaker for the estate. Hired at Robert Mondavi where he worked his way up to director of Enology, he went on to found McKenzie-Mueller.
