The Winery:
The remote estate vineyards are located on the southwest side of the Mayacama Mountains in Sonoma County. The endeavor started first as a vineyard selling grapes to premium local wineries until owner and famous screenwriter Robert Kamen decided to take add winemaking in 1999. The winery facility is located in an small industrial area where several other wineries make their home just south of the city of Sonoma in the Los Carneros AVA.

The Vineyards:
The are located between 1100 and 1450 feet in elevation in the southwestern Mayacama Mountain range in the Sonoma Valley AVA. There are 36 acres of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah for blending as well as a little Syrah. Located above the San Pablo Bay with rocky, shallow the organically farmed vineyards are naturally low producing that results in incredibly intense, but beautifully ripened, fruit.

The Wines:
The winemaking style includes gentle pressing and as little handling as possible which contributes to wines of intensely flavored, fruit forward wines. The specialty of the house is Cabernet Sauvginon, with some very small runs of Syrah and an intriguing Rose made with Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Winemaker:
Mark Herold is the consulting winemaker at Kamen Estate Wines. He has a doctorate in ecology emphasizing nutritional biochemistry from UC Davis. Prior to Kamen Mark worked at Joseph Pehlps as well as producing his own wines under the Merus Wines label with wife Erika Gottl.
