The Winery: 2004 brought forth another new era for Cuvaison with the completion of a state of the art winery in the heart of the Carneros Estate. The tasting room at the site is a modern facility with outdoor tables, marvelous vineyard views, and a relaxing atmosphere. |
The Vineyards:
The 300 acres of vineyards have primarily clay soils, with gently rolling topography and are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Of special note are the Diablo clays in the Syrah block which contribute to the incredible intensity and wonderful minerality of the resulting wine.

The Wines:
The winery has made a reputation for its Chardonnay, which makes up nearly half of its production; and a very special Pinot Noir. Their other wines are made in a small batch format, such as their Merlot which has a pure velvet mouthfeel,great casis, and other black fruit in the finish. The Syrah made from the Diablo block grapes has an incredible meatiness found in the great versions of the varietal, with black fruit and a creamy finish.

The Winemaker: The winemaker at Cuvaison is Steven Rogstad who earned an undergraduate degree in English and then traveled to France where he developed an interest in winemaking in Beaujolais, France. Upon returning to the United States, he obtained a masters in Enology and Viticulture at the University of California, Davis. Prior to coming to Cuvaison, he worked at Saintsbury, Rombauer, Spottswoode, Neyers, Viader, Spring Mountain and Clos Pegase.
