The Winery:
The tasting room for Castle Vineyard Winery is located just off the Plaza in downtown Sonoma in an older, cottage style home with a sizeable porch and gardens. When the weather cooperates, tastings are done on the patio in a French Bistro style. The wines are produced at a winery facility located between Sonoma and Los Carneros.
|
The Vineyards:
The estate consists of 16 acres in the Los Carneros AVA where they grow their own grapes. The winery purchases grapes from a few select Sonoma Valley vineyards they have been working with for many years.
|
The Wines:
Castle is known for its award winning Pinot Noir, but has received recognition for their other vineyard designated wines as well. They make a Zinfandel from Sonoma Valley with intense black fruit, some good baking spice, and a nice structure. The Rhone style Rosé is exceptional with its great acidity, tart red fruit, and long, lingering finish.
|
The Winemaker:
Vic McWilliams has been a winemaker and grape grower for 25 years. He started as a home winemaker, and in 1993 produced his first Castle vintage. The winery became bonded in 1994.
Jennifer Marion joined Castle as a winemaker in 2007, bringing with her new ideas and techniques to the creation of Castle's handcrafted wines. |
