The Winery:
Buena Vista was originally established in 1857 by Count Agoston Haraszthy, making it the oldest premium winery in California.  Although the vineyards and winery production have moved to the Caneros region, the old winery near the City of Sonoma continues to operate as the estate tasting room. Along with wine tasting the facility offers an extensive gift shop that carries wine related gifts and gourmet food items.
The Vineyards:
The Buena Vista Winery was originally located not far from the Sonoma City Plaza. That changed when the winery began purchasing vineyards in Carneros in 1969 and then moved the production facility to the Los Carneros region soon after.  Since then, 1000 acres of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Pinot Gris have been planted. Many of the vineyards  have recently been planted in small blocks of specific clones to allow the vines to be given the individual attention they need to mature to the optimum level.
The Wines:
The winery has made a reputation for incredible Carneros Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. The wines are made under two separate labels: the Carneros Wines which are made to highlight intense flavors that reflects the longer growing season and cooler temperatures of Carneros, and the Estate Series which are low production wines that further highlight the impacts of the terroir of the Ramal Vineyard.
The Winemaker: Jeff Stewart is the winemaker at Buena Vista Carneros. Mr. Stewart has a degree in Fermentation Science, Viticulture and Enology from the University of California at Davis. Prior to coming to Buena Vista he worked at La Crema, Kunde, Mark West, De Loach and Laurier.
