The Winery: This is the oldest continually operating winery in Carneros, with vineyards first planted in the late 1800s. The 100 acre estate surrounds the tasting room and the winery offers self-guided tours of the vineyards as part of the total wine adventure. The tasting room grounds are beautifully landscaped with a backdrop of outstanding Los Carneros vistas. Tastings are offered at the bar inside the tasting room, or for a more personal touch, on the patio where a wine steward will pour your wines.

The Vineyards:
The winery maintains 85 sustainably farmed acres of estate vineyards. The Garretto Hills, two hills that jut up from the surrounding vineyards, create Pinot Noir grapes that reflect the very distinctive terroir of some of highest vineyards in Carneros. The remaining vineyard land is primarily composed of clay loam cobble soils and is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Meunier in addition to the Pinot Noir. These are the most southern vineyards in Carneros giving them the greatest exposure to the cooling influence from the San Pablo Bay and a wide diurnal shift.

The Wines:
Bouchaine produces Pinots with good acidity and wonderful structure which are partially aged in stainless steel to protect the fruit and an elegant floral perfume. The Chardonnays are mostly aged sur lie for texture and a great toasty vanilla finish.
|
The Winemaker: The winemaker for Bouchaine is Michael Richmond who was a co-founder of Acacia with Larry Brooks. He was previously the Vice President of Sales for the Chalone Group. He joined Bouchaine in 2002.
