The Winery: The thirty three acre estate was originally a cattle ranch turned vineyard, and finally a boutique sized winery. The grounds of the winery are truly a little piece of Americana with an old barn acting as the tasting room and the grounds landscaped in beautiful, country style gardens. The winery only offers tasting on two weekends a year during the April and November Los Carneros hospitality events, but does sell wine at the estate without tasting. The wines are offered for tasting at the Cult Wine Central tasting room in St. Helena. |
The Vineyards: There are twenty acres of organic certified vineyards on the estate, with seven acres of Chardonnay, six acres of Merlot, six acres of Pinot Noir and just ½ acre of Syrah. The Haire-Coombs clay loam soils with the morning fog, warm days, and cooling sea breeze, are what make the small vineyard wines special. The vineyard still sells a portion of their grapes to other wineries in the region. |
The Wines: Adastra specializes in small batch, handcrafted wines, aged in French Oak. They are primarily known for their Pinot Noir, but produce a very popular Syrah, and a Merlot with great depth of flavor and soft, dusty tannins. |
The Winemaker: Founder Chris Thorpe works with Consultant Pam Starr to create the wines of Adastra. Pam attended the University of California at Davis where she studied fermentation science. After graduating Pam worked in wineries in both Sonoma and San Luis Obispo. In addition to working as a consultant to several wineries, she has recently opened her own boutique sized winery in the St. Helena region of the Napa Valley. |
